Debra Kanter Klaus,

LCSW-C

I hold a Master's Degree in Dance from American University and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. After working for many years as a dance teacher and choreographer, helping others to tell their stories through movement, I became passionate about working in direct service for change on an individual level. My work in community mental health has taken me into schools and home where I have honed my skills advocating for children and adolescents both within and outside of the classroom.

When you come to see me as an adult client, you too, have a story to share, a need to be heard, and a space where you can reconnect with your inner resourcefulness. As an adult, recognizing your own power to reshape your narrative from a new perspective can bring forth satisfaction, growth, and joy.

Your narrative is uncovered and  cultivated, as together in therapy, we tackle together the stressors that arise from work, family, and social challenges, When anxiety and depression blocks growth, stifles creative problem solving, and life seems overwhelming;  it can feel like we are adrift, without mooring.  With a supportive, strengths based guide by your side, new possibilities and  solutions emerge to problems that once seemed insurmountable. Through our therapeutic relationship, I strive to help you connect more deeply to yourself, others, and to the meaning you wish to make for your life. I want you to be able to tell your story that others will hear.

When you seek therapy, you made the first step to move toward strength and healing!
